Letters are read, though not always answered.

“It says it cannot reach the server”

Sync can be unavailable. This is not data loss.

Reading, sitting, writing lines, the Before journal, local Burn, and the widget all keep working with no server at all — none of them ever needed it. Lines you write while offline wait on your device and upload once the connection returns.

If the message persists, check your network first, then try again later. Nothing you wrote has gone anywhere.

“My lines show as sealed on a new device”

Your lines are encrypted on your device before they sync, with a notebook key that lives in your iCloud Keychain (see the Privacy Policy). A new device shows sealed lines until that key arrives from iCloud Keychain.

Make sure the new device is signed in to the same Apple ID and that iCloud Keychain is turned on in the system Settings. When the key arrives, the lines open.

We cannot open them for you. We never had the key. If every device is gone and the Keychain with it, those lines cannot be recovered by anyone.

“How do I get my writing out?”

Settings → Take everything with you. It exports your lines and your progress as plain text that you own and that does not depend on us.

“How do I delete my account and my data?”

Settings → Burn. It erases everything on this device and on our server, and deletes the account itself. It cannot be undone.

“I made an offering — what did I get?”

Nothing, and that is the intent. Dana is a voluntary offering that buys nothing inside the app. See the Terms of Use. Refunds are handled by Apple.

“The morning bell isn’t ringing”

The bell needs notification permission. If it was declined, turn it on in the system Settings app under Stillness → Notifications, then re-enable Morning bell in the app.

Reporting a problem

Include your device model and iOS version, and what you were doing. Please do not send us your journal text — we cannot read your synced lines and we would rather not read them here either.
